Course overview
This Evergreen course consists of 1 module and 3 toolkits. We have redesigned our course structure to provide you more flexibility in your registration options.
For this course, you can choose to register for the whole course at once, OR you can choose to register for the individual module or toolkit(s) that are relevant to you.
Each module is outlined in detail below.
Module 1: Fundamental concepts of human biochemistry
This module is individually worth 5 CPD hours.
Module 1 learning outcomes:
- Describe the process of digestion and absorption of the principal nutrients from food
- Explain the fate of energy-yielding nutrients in energy metabolism
- Discuss energy balance, including feasting and fasting, and the impact of alcohol on metabolism
- Explain the role of biochemical tests in nutrition assessment

Toolkit 1: Understanding and interpreting biochemical test results
This toolkit is individually worth 2 CPD hours.
Toolkit 1 learning outcomes:
- Describe the role of biochemical testing in nutrition assessment, and explore common diagnostic tests undertaken in Australia
- Explain the use and interpretation of reference intervals (ranges) and what these mean
- Locate up-to-date, evidence-based information on Australian clinical biochemical and laboratory tests
